SMALL ME

Premiere: May 27, 2024 - Fonderia, Reggio Emilia (RE)

A different body is a dangerous body.

In a society founded on conformity and obedience to the rules established by those who hold power, anything that deviates from the norm can become a threat. The figure of the witch also emerges from this need: to identify someone to blame, to give a face to what is not understood, and to eliminate what might challenge an established order.

For centuries, women in particular were accused of witchcraft for the most disparate reasons: because they were alone, widows, healers, midwives, or simply because they were different. Their bodies became the place onto which fears and blame were projected, until a body perceived as dangerous became a body actually in danger.

The choreography moves through this tension, using the figure of the witch as a symbol of those who do not conform, those who represent a possible change of direction and who, precisely for this reason, become inconvenient and must be silenced.

Small me speaks of the fragility of the individual in the face of a power capable of deciding, at any moment, who can be heard, who must be silenced, and when the time has come to disappear. Of how small we can feel when someone else has the power to determine our fate.
