TURN THE TIDE

Turn the Tide on Plastic. This is the name of the racing yacht that, during the Volvo Ocean Race, collected highly significant data on microplastic pollution in the ocean, revealing that microplastics are far more widespread than previously thought.

A recent study conducted by Newcastle University calculated for the first time that the amount of plastic we ingest is equivalent to one credit card per week. Seven plastic islands have so far been discovered around the world.

Floating landfills, accumulations of every shape and colour. The emergency is far more critical than is perceived by the general public.

From this comes the idea of transforming chaos into an immaculate library, with orderly rows of bottles, an aseptic whiteness suited to the state of trance into which we have placed ourselves. An ornament, then, in place of horror. But we need to wake up.

Reversing the trend is proving essential.

Created as part of the MicroDanze project by CCN Aterballetto, a series of short choreographic works commissioned from international choreographers, who were invited to create original pieces based on the concept of “micro”, through the exploration of precise limits of time and space: six to eight minutes, to be performed within a tiny space. The concept was devised by Gigi Cristoforetti at the invitation of Fondazione Palazzo Magnani di Reggio Emilia.
